I love to diagram what I am thinking and flowcharts are the best way to accomplish this. There are plenty of applications that can do this for you and for free. Gliffy.com has a free web based application that has alot of great uses, but your limited to the number of private flowcharts. The public flowcharts you create are accessible by anyone to view if they know the link.
Lucidchart.com is also a web app that allows you to build great flowcharts and also export to Microsoft Vizio readable format, a rare feature to my knowledge. Ultimately, having a Vizio readble format is the requirement if you are sharing flowcharts with others who need to be able to edit since this is the standard (rather expensive) option in corporate environments.
I recently found a great iPhone app called instaviz that has turned my world upside DOWN…ok, a little dramatic, but its a a great app for creating basic flowcharts and has a number of great features, like exporting to different formats(Graphiz, PDF, PNG, VDX(Vizio!)), saving to external cloud storage locations(box.net, iDisk, http, and https) and emailing to others. The best part of it is the user interface and creating shapes. Checkout the website for a great tutorial.
I was really happy to see that the iPhone app also was configured for the iPad(1) which I recently was issued from my company. I works even better on the big screen! This app is more expensive($9.99) than other apps avaiable in the App Store, but its a great value.
